Default So, does Tech replace UGA with Georgia Southern this year?

So, since the ACC and SEC have whizzed all over each other.. The ACC will play a Conference plus 1 model, and the SEC bunker down with a Conference only scheduling model. The ACC’s plus 1 game can only be an in-state out of conference game. So, the end result is UGA and Tech will not play this year head to head in football. But, it opens an opportunity for an instate OOC game to be scheduled.

So here are the candidates for Tech...

Top candidates- Georgia Southern, Georgia State

Wild cards - Kennesaw St, Mercer

You would think Georgia State might have the advantage since they are in Atlanta also... less travel expenses and no need for hotel expenses. But Georgia Southern might still be in play if Tech considers State more of a recruiting threat.

    What do you all think?

The OOC game has to take place in-state. It doesn't have to be from an in-state opponent. And they have to meet the medical requirements of the ACC.

GT already has a game scheduled with UCF....I imagine they'll keep that game more than likely as any AAC teams with current P5 opponents will fight to keep those games since they see themselves on the same level as the P5.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the AAC gets rid of all conference games just because they know after how last year's rankings ended and how UCF seems to be regressing to the mean that the Access Bowl is not a sure thing. If non-conference games go away computer rankings systems have to rely on previous years to do comparisons between conferences and that will favor the AAC. I think that's one reason the SEC decided to nix their conference games because that all but assures their champion spot in the CFP.

One issue is that we don't a common open date with Tech and our bye week is tied up with the Wednesday game with App (when you have a Wednesday game you don't play on the Saturday before or after). I could see the Sun Belt un-scheduling games ESPN hasn't chosen for TV and letting everyone get situated with non-conference games before re-scheduling the conference games around those OOC games.

The one barrier we won't get over (IMO) is that for this season the goal for Geoff Collins and Tech is going to be getting to a bowl game, and when you can count multiple FCS games to that we're going to be pretty far down their list of phone numbers to call.

Not lead pipe locking it, but zero chance it happens. The available weeks just don't match up. They likely will be available Thanksgiving weekend, when we have a conference game.
