Byington's base salary was a little over $282,000 That's a pay raise for some pretty good D1 head coaches.
A 8,500 seat arena is going to feel pretty empty with 2500 fans

Until we hire a D1 HC like JMU just did, the first sentence he posted isnít inaccurate.

none of that post was inaccurate. Now some who continue to drink the blue Kool Aid and wear blue sunglasses are going to keep thinking Hanner is the place to watch a basketball game and our program is a dream job to those D1 HC’s looking to make a change. Go down the list of the ten top D2 basketball programs over the past 5 years, check their HC’s bio. Bring 3-5 of them in for interviews.

Does he have a good roster situation for next season? If he does, no reason to come over for a marginal pay raise (which APSU might be willing to counter-offer anyways). You might be right that we can't get any DI coach.

I would definitely rather take a chance on Metress than hire another recruiter assistant.

Who cares if we hire a D1 head coach? There are many of those who are awful. We're a stepping stone job, but so is every other G5 program out there. There are only 300+ D1 jobs in the country, so we will have plenty of good candidates apply. Many mid-majors have facilities on par or worse than ours. We just have to find the right fit for us and we'll be fine.

Another point, throwing chump change at a D1 HC who already thinks heís pretty good is flat out embarrassing. A guy making say 220,000 and we offer a whopping 260,000, thatís what I call a chump change offer. Then we throw in those awesome basketball perks we have to offer.....yummy!
