Thread: Why playing Georgia State on Thanksgiving weekend is dumb

  1. Default Re: Why playing Georgia State on Thanksgiving weekend is dumb

We should treat Gag the same way Georgia treats Tech. It’s a game that you gotta play and you gotta win to accomplish your goals. It should be an easy win, but they are going to make it as tough on you as they can, and if you lose, you’ll never hear the end of it.

Most of y’all’s reasoning includes that we shouldn’t play a rival the same day as UGA/GT because that game could capture some of our fans’ attention away from our game, but swapping out Georgia State for a South Alabama or Texas State only ensures that. There’s a reason UGA plays UF in the middle of the season and GT to round the season off. It’s how you build and keep a fan base active. If State and Southern both continue to improve and we solidify this in-state rivalry as part of The Rivalry Weekend, eventually playing the same day as UGA/GT will be a non-issue.
    Nailed it.

Everything about Saturday was perfect - to me. The weather rocked, the tailgating was the best it has been all season, there were so many people that came to THIS game that hadn't come all year or hadn't come in actual years. It's a great idea to play this at night on rivalry weekend. Paulson was a good environment.

We have a huge ATL alumni base and that will continue to make the games at GA State full of our fans, and if we keep it at night at Paulson, we will continually draw 15k+ for it too.

After the season we've had, not counting all the adversity the team went through, from a pure fan experience it's been really miserable. It was amazing to finish on such a great note though.

The sad point of this thread subject is that the SB does not care about GS or our attendance at all. We play all of our most desirable games on weeknights or Thanksgiving weekend. If we played App or Gstate on a non Thanksgiving Saturday at 3 pm or later we would probably draw close to 25,000 to both of these games.

We played three games in the conditions you mentioned. Two of those were on the road.

That's hardly "most of our games"

    1) ESPN decides what games are on weeknight TV, not the SBC.
    2) Gag St is our in-state rival and is who we are supposed to play on Rivalry Weekend. Not really a stretch for the SBC to schedule that game then. Would you rather play Tx ST on Rivalry Weekend in front of 8,000 people?
    3) it's not a conspiracy. The SBC cares about us as much as they care about the other football playing teams in the conference. We are not "special" to anyone but our own fans.
