Thread: The Night of Black Thursday

  1. #1

    Default The Night of Black Thursday

    T’was the night of Black Thursday
    And all through Whose House, not an Eaglet was stirring
    It was quiet like a mouse
    I looked at my watch and game time is near
    I think I’ll go down for a cold glass of Yosef's beer

    Down in the line joyous fans still talk about Jerry
    I end up by drinking about 12 cups of Merry

    I get to the stands late
    Gee whiz I start sleeping
    Then into the Row some GSU fans come a leaping
    They stomp on the seats and they get very Yelly
    The stands quiver all over like a bowl full of jelly

    We stumble down the stairs the poor wife and me
    she goes to get coffee
    I just lean on a tree

    My head is exploding
    My mouth tastes like a pickle
    Then the referee's start blowing those really loud whistles!

    On GSU game days I Hug and kiss my GSU friends’ mother
    The rest of the year we don’t speak to each other

    After the game gets started things quiet down to a point
    Then the App…………. State chat starts swarming all over the joint
    On the PA an old Paul Harvey bit is playing
    He says, “Peace on earth good will to men.”
    Just at that moment someone slugs Uncle Ben
    A loud kerfuffle breaks out
    espn zooms in, all the college football world see's and can hear!

    Gee, I’m glad the GSU game comes, just once a year.

    But just like you I enjoy it too.
    Happy Black Thursday everybody Safe travels.

    Poor effort.
    Rudimentary rhyme scheme.
    Terrible syntax.
    Abhorrent flow.

    I just hope App brings the same effort.

    ‘Twas a cold rainy night,
    As the teams trundled in;
    Both ready to fight,
    Both wanting the win.

    Goats on one side,
    Rednecks to the other;
    Their high-powered offense,
    Our defense to smother.

    The wind was a-howling,
    Their passes did sail;
    We chose our own route,
    On the ground without fail.

    The fans were near freezing,
    That cold autumn night;
    But both teams were steadfast,
    And the score was kept tight.

    The goats were ahead,
    As the clock neared the end;
    But the gnats had the ball,
    And weren’t ready to bend.

    The Coach saw a vision,
    As we moved down the grass;
    We’ll win this damn thing,
    With a kicker named Bass.

    The ball was snapped cleanly,
    The placement was true;
    Then toe did meet leather,
    For the win for Big Blue!

    GATA!

    I, for one, will admit that I did not know it.
    Bob Frye, Eagle Dad, is a wonderful poet.

    Now Boone is a sad place for mothers,
    They’d leave if they just had their ‘druthers,
    ’Tis said it’s thrice hot,
    But the moms know it’s not,
    ’Cause their sons are all toothless goat lovers.
