Thread: AAC get a boat load of money

  1. Default AAC get a boat load of money

ESPN gives American Athletic Conference $1 Billion TV deal

The new deal will pay the conference a sum of $1 billion over the next 12 years, a split of $83.3 million per year, or around $7 million per year per school. That’s pennies compared to the $50 million-plus doled out by the Big Ten, but it’s a windfall compared to the league’s current contract that pays less than $2 million per year per school.

Well they do advertise themselves as a P6 Conferance.

In recent years the AAC has had teams that have made some runs that put them in the national spotlight, so it makes sense they would be rewarded. Hopefully we can do the same here in the belt.

Were the terms of the Sunbelt media deal ever released? AAC will have "the majority of basketball games and a significant number of football games" on ESPN+ as part of the deal which is probably good to drive more subscription money to it for the rest of the scrubs.

This right here is an example of why it's stupid to reorganize the SBC and CUSA in geographic terms.

    Picture this as a conference:
    Georgia Southern
    App State
    Troy
    Arkansas State
    Marshall
    Southern Miss
    Louisiana Tech
    WKU
    Someone
    Someone
    Someone
    Someone

Put the right combination of schools together and you could realistically have a conference that gets $1 million-$2 million a year per school in TV rights. After literally all 5 G5 conferences have gotten TV deals worth significantly more than they were getting, it's should be obvious that media markets don't make media rights valuable, bigger fan bases do. Everyone except former CUSA Britton Banowski and a small group of university presidents understood that all along.

I never saw any details released. I could have missed it. Seems like very G5 conference is going to ESPN+ route. I think I saw even UFC went that route.

I've looked pretty extensively and not been able to find it, unfortunately.

Thanks for sharing. I wonder if we could get that info from a FOIA request since we're all public schools.
