Default Keith Gill - New Sun Belt Commissioner

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...er/3208252002/

The Sun Belt Conference is set to announce Keith Gill as its new commissioner on Tuesday, making him the first-ever African-American to lead a Football Bowl Subdivision conference, two people with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports.

Gill, a former Duke football player, has been the executive associate commissioner of the Atlantic 10 since 2017. Previously, he was athletics director at Richmond and American University.

Thanks for sharing. We'll have to wait and see but should be a good hire.

Happy to see our conference leading the way in a diversity hire! I am hoping he acquits himself well and moves the SBC to even greater heights.

At this point, Sun Belt basketball is what it is. There's no magic wand that's going to make us a multi-bid league or improve the league in any meaningful way.

On the other hand, CUSA and the MAC have better bowl tie-ins across the board than we do, and that shouldn't be the case. We match them in terms of attendance and performance on the field. That's one area where a commissioner can leave a mark, and I just don't know if a guy from a basketball conference can do that. That's a problem that you don't need lots of money to fix.

Completely underwhelming hire to me, but at least these commissioners are mostly figureheads and don't have nearly as much power as the member presidents.

Very nervous that we have a commissioner with only basketball league experience when bowl contracts are about to be renewed.

Iím more concerned that the ADs didnít have much, if any, say in the hire.

Total head scratcher! The Sun Belt's made outstanding improvements in recent years as a football centric conference. King Benson's replacement seems similar with the ego but with basketball first experience.
