    Default Spring practice

    Anybody go? Thoughts?

This is probably the most prenrolled frosh we’ve ever had.
Too many Urkels on your team that's why your wins low

Nothing earth-shattering here, mostly some topics we’ve already been discussing. The most interesting item is probably DeBesse’s commentary on Wes Kennedy at RB.

Some comments from DeBesse some might find interesting.

"Obviously it's different in that we have a year with the coordinators and their systems under our belt. Now we can expand on our schemes and get better at that. I think spring ball always comes down to fundamentals, technique and trying to get better at your position along with making sure you have competition at each position."
"We have to. We can't be who we were. People are too smart and the people we play are too good so we have to become more diverse. When you say opening up the playbook, for me it means more looks, more pre-snap presentations and obviously more ways to throw the ball when we want to, not when we have to."

DeBesse well on his way to being a “real” OC.

This should get people excited. Stability at the OC position is something that we haven't had in what feels like a very very long time, and the players coming back this year have never experienced that. We will see a lot of positives come from that. The most important is that our guys have settled into the scheme and can now work on diversifying the playbook, one of the main pillars of a successful option offense.

Hmm . . . option offenses typically have—and should have—the slimmest playbooks in the game. All you need is a few carefully-packaged series and a handful of wrinkles.

    +1

IMO, this will come down to executing passing plays better, but just as importantly to more consistency in the running game.

If 35% of our rushes get stuffed, we won’t be throwing “when we want” very often.

Of course, in some ways this is a chicken/egg situation.

59.8 completion percentage, highest passing yards per attempt since becoming FBS, more passing TDs than 2014 (even removing the bowl game), first team in basically recorded history to not have a single interception thrown all season.

I hope we aren't going to fix what isn't broken in the passing game. I don't want to pass unless the other team forces you to do it.

Get into fewer 3rd down and 9 situations by running better on first and second down, then throw it when the defense is getting in your face.
