Thread: Graduation Ceremonies Moving to Savannah

  1. Default Graduation Ceremonies Moving to Savannah

Looks like what some of y’all warned us about is coming to fruition.

No matter what campus you took classes on, Nursing, Public Health, and Education majors will be graduating in Savannah, their “main campus.” All other majors will be graduating in Paulson. Students and families from both campuses are currently in an uproar and a change.org petition has been started.

So that’s what the other shoe dropping sounds like.

    More info here.https://www.georgiasouthern.edu/commencement/

Basically it looks like they're doing multiple small ceremonies, and then there's one BIG ceremony for EVERYONE at Paulson

That’s much clearer. The first email was quite vague.

But not everyone will have their name called in Paulson.

And that's what's rubbing people the wrong way.

Twitter is lighting up right now.

No one will get their name called in Paulson from my interpretation..
the graduates will be recognized individually and receive their diploma covers at the small ceremonies, and the big ceremony and Paulson will recognize the graduates as a group.

Well, this is crap. Someone needs to bring this to a grinding halt. Two separate campuses. Stop splitting stuff up, this fixes problems short term but will hurt the university long term. Have a chancellor with tow separate presidents.

I wonder how many MAJOR large Universities call out every students name at graduation?

so let's see, I get my name called and my diploma on Friday but then I get up Saturday morning and go to Paulson even though I just "got out" the day before?

It sounds wonky for sure. We all know how important graduations are to parents and family .... sometimes they mean more to the family than the grad. That would be a logistical nightmare for a family to coordinate.
