    Re: Old conference mates......

Ah--I made the mistake of stopping with Landis's first staff at Bucknell. Looks like he kept adding acorns from Stowers' tree.

Nichols was Presbyterian's HC the last time we played them.

    Re: Byrd, Brinson Honored

Yeah, that's premature. Both Rashad Byrd and Reynard Ellis seem to be cut from the Edwin Jackson mold (as players), but expecting them to play at the next level is foolhardy. I'm just glad they play...

Big coming-out party for Quinn Williams.*

I haven't gone back and re-watched the whole game; generally speaking, does anyone have a sense how much he played Dog OLB in one of our standard...

    Re: Minnesota Score Prediction Thread

I would be inclined to call both of them "flukes," whatever that means. BUT you also have to attribute those plays partly to our talent. How many of us thought Bama's FG block and score in 2011 was a...

I suppose it's not as crazy as Pike watching all that Ferris State film.

    Re: Old conference mates......

It’s quite likely that the team bought into the “GTG” mantra a bit too readily in the off-season, accepting it as a foregone conclusion rather than as a goal. However, the sloppiness we’ve seen thus...

    Re: Old conference mates......

Yeah, me and Google know a good bit between the two of us.

I watched Furman his first season. They were bouncing between the flex and the I quite a bit.

    I don’t know whether they’ve built on...

    Re: Old conference mates......

JU coach Ian Shields was the OC at Cal-Poly and Army under Rich Ellerson. JU’s OC is former Army QB Trent Steelman, if y’all remember him.

Coincidentally, Shields replaced Mike Houston at...

    Re: Old conference mates......

Tim Landis, who took the flex to Bucknell and hired Thomson, was previously head coach at Davidson College and at St. Mary’s (California).

I have no idea where he picked it up, but there are (or...

    Re: After the game thoughts

The thing about both of those kickoff returns is that he was a blocker in those formations, picking up squib kicks.

IMO, Brinson is probably the most explosive athlete we’ve got with the ball in...

He can flat out fly; I hope he’s in the best position for himself and for the team.

    Re: After the game thoughts

Yep. Brinson does crazy things almost every time he gets the ball in his hands. He’s an athletic freak.

Maybe we should play him on offense? ;)

No, it’s not. It wasn’t falling at the beginning of 2002, 2005, or at any point during the Monken era.

People need to chill out before they get crazy and push the administration into blowing up...

    Re: After the game thoughts

Hard to believe you buzzards are circling around this team—and especially this staff—like you are. I feel like I’m in an alternate reality.

Of course, I’ve felt this way before on this board . . .

Re: This game should put to bed the notion...

Yep. Just think about how much better we’ve been during these three exhibition games than we were at any point two years ago.

The real season begins in two weeks. Until then, I’ll be philosophical.

    Nah.

GS runs MUCH more triple option under Lunsford/DeBesse than we did under Fritz/Ruse.

    Re: Minnesota Score Prediction Thread

I like Wade Lang a lot. He was a big time innovator 10-12 years ago. He’s a bit long in the tooth for GS at this point, though.

    I would have been happy hiring Ayers/Lang in 2005, 2007, and 2013....
